Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why must a pool heat pump be reversible

A: This allows to use it at low temperatures, at the beginning and end of the season the nights are often colder than 8°C while the temperature at which every heat pump risks freezing is about 10°C. It is essential that the heat pump can defrost its evaporator coil quickly to maintain heating capacity.

Q: What is the lowest temperature at which a reversible system can work?

A: During tests lasting a few days at temperatures between -10°C and -15°C, the unit worked perfectly and was able to heat the pool. That is much more than needed for most uses.

Q: Is there a risk of freezing for the titanium exchanger during the cold season?

A: As long as the water circulates through the exchanger and the reversible is in heating mode there is no freezing risk. At the end of the heating season, it is necessary to drain the system to prevent water for staying in it. Due to the conception of the units, all that there is to do to is unplugging the lower water pipe, and the exchanger empties itself by the weight of the water.

Q: Is it noisy?

A: The commercial reversible systems that we distribute have a noise level between 61 and 65 dB(A). The noise level of an average desktop computer, measured at 60 centimetres from the case is 60 dB(A) so your HVAC Concept pool heater will be barely more audible than the computer on which you read this web page!

Q: How to reduce the heating costs for my pool?

A: Obviously, purchasing a reversible system represents many thousand dollars in savings every season. Rigorous use of a pool blanket, especially during night and windy periods, helps minimizing the heat losses from the pool.

Q: Do reversible systems break often?

A: Quite the opposite, as an example the series introduced by HVAC Concept in 2007 had less than 1% breakages. Care taken during conception and manufacturing of products insure great reliability for every product distributed by HVAC Concept.

Q: Do you have a product with enough capacity for my heating needs?

A: Of course! Installations of more than 4 700 000 Btu/hr have already been made. Our residential line has units starting at 25 000 Btu/hr, power on 230V/single pahse so installation is simple anywhere in North America.

Q: I have a pool of dimensions XYZ, which model do I need?

A: It is not so simple to evaluate the needed capacity. Climate of the area in which the reversible system will be installed has to be considered (temperature, moisture, wind, solar gains). Desired water temperature and bathing season length. Our counselling service can make this study for you, and even tell you about the available subsidies.

Q : Where are these products made?

A: These products are assembled in China from the best available parts. An important part of their design is made in Québec, according to the specificities of our climate.

Q: I am a swimming pool retailer, how do I get these products to my store?

R: The best option is to notify your usual purchasing organization of your interest for HVAC Concept's reversible systems. Volume buying may make you eligible for a volume discount. You can also contact us to place an order directly.

Q : Do your products conform to the environmental regulations?

A: Of course, we have already stopped the production and importation of pool heating units that use HCFCs since these gases have harmful effects on the environment. All our product lines une HFCs, whose production and use will not be restricted.

Q : How to operate my reversible pool heater for the best performance

A: The unit must not be obstructed so air can circulate freely through it. Water pipes should be as short as possible, especially if they are buried in the ground. The unit must be allowed to work continuously, a refrigeration circuit works more effectively if it runs for long periods. Thus it is not recommended to drive the units with a timer, which could also le the water temperature drop a few degrees before restarting the unit.
